2012 Review

Ok, so, I just saw 2012, and, to be honest, it wasn't all that good. To say the least, it was very predictable, very unrealistic, and was full of cheesy "comedy."

*SPOILER ALERT*

Essentially, this movie is about destruction. The core of the Earth is really hot for some reason, and it's making everything move and burst into flames. I will say, visually, the movie was great. Everything looked realistic. However, some parts were way too generic. Here are a few scenes:
  • The Earth is falling just behind the group of escaping main characters, as we see the landscape lowering just behind them. (This happens more than once)
  • Two buildings are falling vertically into each other. The main characters in the plane fly right between them.
  • Main character falls into bottomless pit. Just as the other characters are getting ready to leave, the main character comes out of the pit and makes it back to the rest of the characters
As you can see, these scenes were easy to predict and were expected in a movie like this.

The unrealistic comes into play just a few minutes into the movie. Although movies like this tend to not be as realistic as normal, even meaningless events made no sense. In one scene, we find out that, two days before the Earth "explodes" or whatever, the Chinese have already built gigantic ships to carry away the wealthiest and richest people. This happens in mere weeks of finding the exact date of destruction. The characters say a generic racist joke and move on. I, on the other hand, and wondering how anyone could draw up these plans and still have time to make the ships.

And, finally, the comedy. You'd think that, in a time of an international crisis such as this, that there'd be no time for laughing, much less bad jokes. Unfortunately, that's not the case, as characters crack jokes like "we lost it all in Vegas" and "we're going to need a bigger plane," along with (harmless) racist jokes, potty jokes, and more.

*END SPOILER*

So, overall, it was ok. At least the movie made sense. I was able to follow along well, and got to know each of the characters. And, as I said, the visuals were good. However, I think this sums the movie up; Here were the last two lines:

Little Girl: I'm not scared. No more Pull-Ups.
Main Character: Nice.
